Everything you put down your drain affects the performance of your septic system. Never put things like coffee grounds, grease, wipes, or sanitary products down your drain or toilet.
Reducing the amount of water used reduces the amount of waste that must be pushed through your septic system. Less work means less chance of problems.
Do not park or build on your drainfield. Do not plant on or near your drainfield. Roots can grow in or around your drainfield and septic system causing serious damage. Keep drainage water away from your drainfield area.
Inspecting and pumping frequently increases the chances of catching a problem before it becomes serious. Pumping removes the scum and solid waste from you tank reducing the chance of backups, odor or more serious issues. Mason County advises pumping your Septic Tank at least every three years.
